RelTalk: The Stress of Everyday Racism on Black Families
In this RelTalk, August Jenkins of Penn State University discusses how racism is more than color through the role of context in black families’ experiences. This presentation describes how public perceptions of Black couples and families have been negative and pathological. Jenkins also discusses how theory can illuminate the unique stressors that Black Americans face living in a racist society and how they demonstrate resilience to such stress to maintain family functioning and well being.
